What was your wedding date & year? January 16, 2022
What Camp Lucy venue did you select? Ian’s Chapel
What made you choose Camp Lucy to celebrate your love? There’s something magical about Camp Lucy. We both toured and got married in the winter, and the landscape was lush, green, and beautiful. Ian’s Chapel itself is a site of eclectic histories, all of which somehow come together seamlessly in the Texas Hill Country. We had toured one other property before Camp Lucy and walked away feeling unsure, but the moment we stepped foot in Ian’s Chapel, something clicked. We just felt almost immediately that this was where we were meant to get married.
What was your favorite part/memory of your Camp Lucy wedding experience? Because we were able to stay on the property in Camp Lucy’s gorgeous rooms, we had a relatively relaxed morning before our wedding, including yoga at Stedman Hall. Then, when I was taking a moment for myself back in my mom’s room, my soon-to-be-husband, John, brought me a chai latté, my favorite morning drink. It was a simple moment, but she broke down crying because she felt so overwhelmed with gratitude that she got to marry someone who made all these small but incredibly caring daily gestures all the time.
For my husband, John, his favorite memory was recapping the night in our getaway car. Everything had been so perfect (or perfectly imperfect, like when we were so excited to be married that we forgot to exchange our rings at the ceremony), and it was such a lovely moment to be the two of us, just talking about everything that had happened.
Have you been back to Camp Lucy since the wedding? No, but we’re planning to stay for a night around our one-year anniversary! We can’t wait!
What made your Camp Lucy wedding experience such a positive one? I think when you have such a beautiful venue, it makes everything else easier because you know everything will be breathtaking regardless. Some of our favorite photos from the wedding are in fact not in decorated spaces, but just on Camp Lucy’s grounds, where there are gorgeous streams, trees, etc. to serve as background. It was also fantastic to have Whim Florals at our disposal and to have them so integrated with the venue. Our florist at Whim Hospitality was absolutely amazing; we came in with a complicated vision of what we wanted, and she made it happen seamlessly and with grace. Tara Blackwell from Lotus Events was also incredible; she and Camp Lucy have such a fantastic working relationship that we felt we were in great hands with her as our coordinator.
What are you and your family up to now? Two days after the wedding, we both started back to school — John at law school, Ally in her PhD. We spent the summer working in Washington, D.C., and then in August, we finally got to take our honeymoon, which was absolutely amazing! Now, we’re both back in school, studying hard.
