Camp Lucy offers the unique ability to host your event inside our 4-acre vineyard amongst the vines. With the addition of our 88-foot Savannah Sperry Tent, bistro-lit aisle, and private hospitality suites, the Vineyard has become a popular event location to drink in the romance of Camp Lucy – whether it be hosting rehearsal dinners to corporate groups, weddings, and more. Since our first harvest in 2014, we have expanded to growing enough grapes (which we hand-pick every summer) to produce four varietals of Camp Lucy wine.
Because this is a working vineyard, you will find the vines themselves undergo a variety of stages as they move from dormancy, flowering and eventually veraison for harvest. While the vineyard provides beautiful views of the Texas Wine Country year-round, as the seasons change so does the vineyard for the grapes to grow and become delicious Camp Lucy wine.
December – February: Following the first “freeze”, the vines will drop all their leaves. Vines are then pruned, and roots are burrowed deep in the soil to feed on nutrients and prepare for the next years growth.
March – April: First buds appear and leaves begin to fill the vines. Grass and other wild foliage will begin to grow among the vineyard aisles. As the weather warms, vines will fill quickly with the lush green leaves and vines appear fuller. The vineyard begins to take on a vibrant green color.
May – August: Small grapes emerge as vines self-pollinate. These eventually transform into purple, plump clusters (veraison). Once optimal Brix levels (sugar levels), are reached, grapes will be harvested by our team and transported offsite to be crushed, fermented and bottled. We harvest each acre ourselves for team bonding – we open up our property to the public so you can join in on the fun. Stay tuned for upcoming dates!
September – November: Similar to the leaves of trees in the fall, the remaining leaves after the summer harvest will remain on the vines and slowly begin to change color before they fall off for the winter months.
Out of our vineyard, we produce 4 varietals of grapes which include Petit Verdot, Malbec, Mourvèdre, and monte Pucciano. Through these varietals, we have 2 wines available – the Camp Lucy Blend and Malbec, which won silver in the London Wine Show. Next year, we will be adding a sparkling Mourvèdre blush.
